Frequently Asked Questions
Do you offer wheelchair rental?
We do not offer wheelchair rentals, as our focus is on providing custom-made wheelchairs for full-time users. The models we supply are not designed for the rental market. For rental options, several companies across Ireland specialize in this service. A quick search for “wheelchair rental Ireland” should help you find suitable providers.
Do you have a showroom we can visit?
We don’t have a showroom as we’re not a retail outlet. Our products and services require assessments, usually done in collaboration with an Occupational Therapist, and we typically conduct these in your home. We can arrange an onsite visit with one of our product specialists, but this must be booked in advance and is generally available only on Mondays, as our team is often on the road for home and clinic visits
What is a product specialist?
Our product specialists are among the most experienced professionals in the industry. They evaluate, designs, and customise seating solutions for individuals using wheelchairs. Their role involves assessing the specific needs of a person with mobility challenges, such as their posture, comfort, and any medical conditions that affect their seating. They work closely with healthcare professionals (e.g., occupational therapists, physiotherapists) to provide wheelchair seating systems that promote proper alignment, prevent pressure sores, and enhance the user’s quality of life.
Some key roles include:
- Recommending appropriate wheelchair models and seating systems.
- Discussing pros and cons of products available through Momentum
- Educating users and caregivers on the proper use of the equipment.
- Providing ongoing support and adjustments as needed.
Our specialist helps ensure that the seating is both functional and comfortable, improving the user’s mobility and independence.
How can I avail of a wheelchair from the HSE?
We have a great blog on this, please follow this link – https://www.momentumhealthcare.ie/wheelchair-eligibility-in-ireland/5
Do you ship outside of Ireland?
No, we are importers and dealers serving the Irish market only. Our dealership agreements only allow us to trade in Ireland.
Do you accept trade ins or second-hand wheelchairs?
We are unable to accept second-hand products as we are committed to providing the highest quality and design for our clients. To ensure the best outcomes, we do not repurpose chairs with unknown histories. Client safety and ease of use are our top priorities, and we must also consider infection control concerns when it comes to second-hand items.
Do you offer wheelchair repairs or maintenance?
We are pleased to offer spare parts and servicing for the wheelchairs we sell. However, if the product was purchased from a different manufacturer, we are unable to source the necessary spare parts and will be unable to assist in that case.
How long does a wheelchair take to arrive?
All of our wheelchairs are made for each client, so we do not keep stock in Kilkenny. They are manufactured in various locations, including France, Poland, the UK, Germany, and Canada. The process typically takes 6 to 9 weeks, from production to arriving back in Ireland for quality checks and delivery.
What is the warranty on a wheelchair?
The warranty on a wheelchair varies depending on the manufacturer and model, but it typically covers defects in materials and workmanship for a specific period. Here are common warranty details:
Conditions: Warranties cover manufacturing defects but do not apply to damage caused by misuse, accidents, or wear and tear.
- Frame: Many wheelchairs come with a warranty on the frame, which can range from 3 to 5 years or even a lifetime in some cases.
- Components: Parts like wheels, armrests, and footrests often have shorter warranties, usually 1 year but it is important to note this does not include wear and tear or damage from misuse.
- Electronics (for power wheelchairs): The warranty on electronic components, such as motors, typically lasts 1 to 2 years.
- Batteries usually only have a 6-month warranty period
- It’s important to check the specific warranty terms provided by the wheelchair manufacturer or supplier. This can be found in the user guide provided with your wheelchair.
